génìus, m. genio (=generator of life;, protective spirit of every man who watched over him from birth to death, taking part to his joys and sorrows, and disappeared together with him. As every person, so every place, every city, every state, everything had its own patron genius.)
The project Genius Loci was conceived in 2006 and its aim is to explore the interaction between man and environment within the frameworks of contemporary patterns of living.
This work can be placed within the perspective of human ecology, with artistic, as well as social and political intent of drawing attention to the effects of this interaction, in terms of quality of life and environmental sustainability.
Genius Loci offers an experience of perception somewhat whispered, in a oneiric and evocative atmosphere. An attempt of aesthetic (but not at all arty) solicitation of sensibility dulled under a burden of the cultural dominion of technology.
For this purpose, we make use of audio and video field recordings, properly manipulated in order to explore, through an effect of estrangement, symbolic dimensions of everyday-life experience, beyond the "apparently evident".

Biographies
Mario D?Andreta aka dR.wHo performs sound experiments in the field of concrete and acousmatic music.
From 2003 he co-manages the label Idroscalo D'Autore with Antonella Pintus aka annabolena and together they form duet NOITZ.
In 2005 he conceives and starts the project "Scatole Sonore" together with "L'Antascorrevole" cultural association.
At the present he works on the audio-visual project Alien City spleen.
Luca Criscuolo aka Evol_K worked as stylist and graphic designer, creating scenography and video installations.
He also works as multimedia and web designer for television and cinema (?Violent Loop? by Mauro Meconi, ?In sospeso?? by Antonella Pintus - Espera Espera bioproduzioni).
From 2002 he performs as Veejay, collaborating with different Italian DJs and musicians.
From 2006 collaborates with Mario D?Andreta to the project Alien City Spleen.
Technical requirements
2 tables, each about 2x1 m, 2 multiplug (10 slot).
Video:
1 video-projector (at least 2500 ansilumen), with s/video or rca input, 1 video mixer, 1 screen (14,40x11,52 m).
Audio:
2 stereo inputs rca or jack, 2 stereo monitors speakers, 1 audio power amplification system, 1 headphones.
