Aural Pollutions 1

AURAL POLLUTIONS is a series of studies about the noisy backgrounds of our lives; it's a work on low-fi sounds: radio interferences, music from mobiles' speakers and from loud car stereos in the traffic, people's speeches, are captured from the background they're in and ordered and mixed by a cellist-dj who builds the rithmic loops and then plays his instrument on them.

AUREAL POLLUTIONS is part of the series of works for "CELLO IN BAD COMPANY", that is "several ways, for a solo cello, to interplay freely with other, non strictly musical, sonorous elements."

A series of performances for cello and noises, sounds, disturbances and soundscapes...

Notes for the aesthetic of the instrument in bad company :

  • the composition is a continuous flow, without beginning nor end
  • the soloist instrument works on short and open musical themes, with repetitions and variations, but few developements
  • improvisation, casuality, ciclicity have a determining role
  • the sonorous space is part of the composition
  • the accompaniment to the soloist gladly uses soundscapes and field recordings, various sounds and silences
  • the accompaniing instruments can be consumer electronics and other products used in a non conventional way, low-budget and low-fi instruments, tapes..
  • the study of the accompaniment processes is not next to the soloist part
